The Utopia series, 2003, signals Viale's arrival in the world of computer processes, a space for experimenting new projections, where virtuality generates results.

A natural element is the starting point, but it undergoes a phased transformation designed to create very "light" images – light in the Italo Calvino sense of "not heavy".

The whole series is built around a pattern extracted from one of her photographs and digitally redrawn, then repeated with different dimensions and colours.

In the video Laura's Garden, 2004, the same pattern pulses to the nervous rhythms of an electronic melody, whose sounds recall those of our everyday technological devices. The observer is transported into a space, which is not subject to the weightiness of reality, a place for cultivation and escape.
